Licensing
Companies that want to make their products SmartCraft-compatible must purchase a SmartCraft protocol license. Licensing provides the CAN bus documentation and engineering information for developing the hardware and software through which products can communicate with the SmartCraft CAN P (propulsion) and/or CAN V (vessel) data buses.
As part of the SmartCraft Networked program, MotoTron licenses the SmartCraft protocol to manufacturers of navigation electronics, gauge systems, power generation systems and other electronic vessel systems interested in producing SmartCraft-compatible products.
Licensing includes a royalty payment agreement between Brunswick and non-Brunswick companies for the use,
documentation, databus development and field integration support of the SmartCraft protocol. For further information see How to Join.
Once you license the SmartCraft protocol, you automatically become part of the SmartCraft Networked program.
Types of SmartCraft Licenses
The following types of Smart Craft licenses are available:
- Level 1 - enables the receipt of information contained on the SmartCraft CAN P (propulsion), CAN V (vessel), and SC-Ethernet buses, plus the ability to request an access level to the SmartCraft system.
- Level 2 - provides the information and functionality of the Level 1 license, plus the ability to generate and deliver control messages on the CAN V or Ethernet databusses.
Level 1 and Level 2 licenses require licensees to independently become City/Module members of Can Kingdom
International (CKI), www.cankingdom.org, before submitting products for and achieving SmartCraft
Networked product certification.
